Where are all the good-hearted, educated, and ambitious Mien men out there?
Submitted by mystic on Wed, Aug 06, 2008; 11:59 AM.
How many of you Mien girls/women have grown up hearing your parents say to you, "You need to marry a Mien guy?" Since the Mien people have been living in the United States for over two decades, I imagine a lot of Mien parents have learned to become lenient or accept their daughters' decision to marry outside of our ethnic group. However, I'm sure there are still many old-fashioned parents who are adamant on having their daughter marry a mien guy. For those who are in this predicament, how many of you find it very difficult to find Mien men who are educated, ambitious, good-hearted, and at the same time, is mature enough to realize that he must put you and your family as top priority over hanging out with his friends and partying?

"The greatest love is the love of another person"
Being in love is the happiest and joyous moment in a person's lifetime, especially when you found that someone whom shares your dreams and hopes along the long journey ahead. There may come many obstacles in the way of your love, Ignorant people standing in your way telling you how to feel and not feel, but never let any of them tear you away from your love for that person.Once when you are in love you will realized that other people's opinion don't matter much and their ignorant is just another stupidity that they haven't realize of yet. Love one another with the love that you seem to been searching for all of your life. There may come many struggles but that will only make your love stronger for one another and realized that the love you have for one another is much stronger than anything else around the two of you.
there are good mien guys out there
Hey sistas...there are a good handful if not a good bucket full of us educated, hard working single mien guys out there who are trying to see where all the nice ambitious young mien females out there too. You just need to seek it out and find them also. However, some of us wants to keep our mien traditions and value to pass to our next generations too. So don't rush enjoy life and keep an open mind. Keep MIEN ALIVE..LOL

Karma
Yes you do want it to happen to her, other wise you wouldn't even have mentioned it. Karma works in the most mysterious ways. Don't know what happened between u and your ex and not wanting u to specify either MGD. Just hope good things happen to others as you want upon yourself. Things happen for a reason. Whether to teach us a lesson and make us stronger or for what ever reason. We don't want the bad things that happen to us at all. It just happens sometimes. And I'm sure the other person didn't mean to hurt you either. Karma like I said works in mysterious ways. And it was wrong and bad of me to say that karma's a b*tch but it is. And really u don't want it to happen to others it just happens.. Hope I didn't offend u in any way. mai duqv hiet hnyou oc? if I did. I didn't mean to..

A_Saechao
A_Saechao, I agree with you that there are a lot of Mien parents who do not encourage their children to go to college; however, I want you to know that there are many parents out there that do. I guess I, along with many of my cousins, are fortunate to have parents who encourage us to achieve higher education regardless of our sex. For my female cousins and myself, we all believe that it's very difficult for us to find any Mien guys who come from the same background. Most of the educated Mien men we know are related to us. :(
Lovestory
Thank you for your candid comments. I think there are many young Mien men and women in your situation. It would be great if this blog can be an avenue for these people to connect. :)
Sex-hunter
"Make my skin goosebum"? What the hell? I think you need to seriously consider going back to first grade to work on your grammar and spelling. You are obviously not one of the educated Mien men we're talking about here. Fyi...I'm not asking anyone to find me a man. I certainly have no issue finding a man. Again, your feeble mind just simply can't comprehend the topic we are discussing in this blog. If you had parents worth being proud of, you would find no issue in praising them. I'm so sorry you were not blessed with that. It wouldn't surprise me to find that you're someone who disrespects his parents, are embarrassed to be around them, and does nothing to show any gratitude to them for giving you life.
When mystic said her parents
When mystic said her parents are one of the successful business owners it make my skin goosebum. Final thought, never know any mien girls have to come online like "mystic" and ask to help her find a man
Im a guy but i see what you
Im a guy but i see what you mean. I sometimes feel that my parents are too overprotected over me. i feel like they control my life. I think that we should be able to control our own lives and be able to make our own decisions. My parents also want me to marry a Mienh girl, but where I live, there are none. How am I supposed to fall in love and marry a Mienh girl if I hardly ever see any? You know hat I mean?
Good topic...
but I guess I can't really answer the part of the question addressing the girls since I'm not a girl, but I can kinda see where you are coming from. However, I feel like there is sort of a double standard here. I agree that a lot of Mien guys are not doing anything with their lives really, but I see a lot of the Mien girls not doing anything either. It's only been two decades or so that our ethnic group has been in America, we are still adapting. I just feel the reason for such the massive amounts of young Mien people not doing anything productive with their lives and not putting family first is... a rather complex situation.
Most Mien people I talked to are very bitter with their parents, me included, because from my experience and talking to most Mien there's that feeling of our parents always complaining about our existence and their problems, being so pessimistic and always wanting us to conform to the Mien traditions in Thailand at the same time. We, as in the first generation kids, don't really know what to do so we just rebel and do whatever because we are mad at our parents and they are mad at us. Of course, as I stated before, this only applies to me and the Miens that I talked to. I don't know if it's the case with the other Miens out there that are having a hard time, but I really do believe that it has something to do with the relationship of the parents and kids. I guess this kinda ties in to the education part also, again both young Mien men and women don't go to school, which in this case, I assume it's college you are talking about. I'm sorry, but I never heard of any Mien parents who encouraged their kids to go to college and get a BS, BA, MA, PhD or whatever; I mean that's just the reality of it. Mien parents, most, still hold on to what they know best, which is the way life is in Thailand. They just want the kids to work and work and help out the family, which is not a bad thing I guess to some extent. I honestly believe most Mien parents don't care if their kids get a college degree, they just want them to get a job, whether they are happy or not, fast and help pay bills. I mean my parents are always asking when am I gonna finish this school or when can I get a job and help with their bills. I mean I go to college to learn and follow my passion and at the same time I feel guilty and sort of a hindrance because I'm not helping them with bills. I have even heard my mom complaining about me with other Mien parents that all I do is go to school and care about myself, I mean that is very detrimental to me or anyone. I mean I really have no entitlement to put someone down that doesn't have a college education if they are working their ass off to help with bills, because I know how hard it can be when you have parents that don't understand life in America and wants you to support their...well greedy needs. If all a Mien individual does is work at a nonsatisfactory low paying job just to help pay bills then it's just gonna lead to a dissapointing and despairing life. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to agree with what some of the responders said in that a lot of Miens are just gamblers and wanna-be-gangsters, hard-thug-life or whatever the lingo is. I guess to Mien people getting an education or just following your passion is stigmatized, I mean heck, most Mien people call me White-Washed or some other stupid junk for just following my dreams. But I'm not surprised. It doesn't take a genious to figure out, people tend to treat the outcast with hatred. We are indigenous people, we have very simple lives back in Thailand in our villages and there are a lot of new things here in America that looks weird to us. Some of us still want to live that simple life style, whether it be not going to school or just gambling or whatever. I guess this kinda answers the Where are all the good-hearted, educated, and ambitious Mien men out there? But when it comes down to it, the plain simple reality is Mien people needa get it together... There is not a single gender to blame, but all. All this scandalous stuff, spreading rumors in such a small community, gossiping, back stabbing, gambling and other stuff isn't helping at all.
Finally, as you already know it's hard or close to impossible to find someone that has all the qualities that you prefer. It's like a miracle to even find someone with 100% everything you hope for, but I don't think thats realistic obviously. Life is unfair and unperfect and sometimes what you didn't hope for is actually what works out the best. I guess for me, I just let love find me instead of looking for it. Looking for it always seem to get you in trouble. But this is all I know and think, and hopefully it wasn't too long.
Careful
I think Mien Brotherhood is a mienprince of thieves. He doesn't need gold/money. He'll probably go around stealing and breaking young mien gurls hearts. lol jk..

Sex-hunter
"Sex-hunter?"....Somehow it doesn't surprise me and/or anyone out there that you would respond in such a way. I guess your name says it all. Let me set the record straight.....
THERE IS NO HATRED OR PREJUDICE AGAINST ANY MIEN MEN OUT THERE. IT WOULD BE RIDICULOUS FOR YOU TO THINK OTHERWISE BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE FATHERS, BROTHERS, UNCLES, ETC. WHO ARE MIEN MEN. IN GENERAL, MOST MIEN WOMEN WOULD LOVE TO FIND AN ELIGIBLE MIEN GUY. OUR ISSUE IS SIMPLY THE FACT THAT WE CANNOT FIND ANY "SINGLE" MIEN GUY WHO HAS "ALL" THOSE QUALITIES. HENCE, I AM ASKING THE IUMIEN.COM READERS OUT THERE TO LET US KNOW IF THERE IS SUCH A GUY.
From your response along with Shyguy611, I'm starting to think that it's no wonder that a lot of Mien women are looking outside of our community for a potential lifetime partner. It is both Shyguy611 and your attitude that sours us single Mien women from wanting to get to know you. Your responses are filled with accusations that have no evidence to justify it, and your inability to comprehend the purpose of this posting makes you look very ignorant.
May
May,
I'm sorry to hear that you have to factor religion into your dating life. I can't imagine what you might be going through. I hope you'll be able to get around it somehow.
It's never enough
It's never enough is it? The more you ful-fill the more they want. If it's not one thing it's another. Can we ever be satisfied?
""Making every precious moment count"
religion
i agree with everything, but nowadays it's not just being educated or ambitious, or good-hearted. that's not enough anymore. now parents have another expectation, religion. which makes it like ten times harder.
Every mien guy
Every mien guy is a good guy. We are all sisters and brothers. We are all mien. There's no judging or bringing down our own kind here. I don't think mystic was trying to put any mien men down. She's just trying to scope the more ambitious and family type of guy. Also to see if there's anyone else out there that's having a hard time as well searching for that one special person. =) No need to get offended. Represent yourselves mien brothers and sisters.
""Making every precious moment count"

You're very ambitious and very smart person! You know exactly what you want in life. I hope your wishes and dreams will come true.
Always keep in mind: "Love" is like a water plant, you just never know until the wind takes you to where ever the water flow.
~Every rose has its thorn~
I agree with shyguy611
WOW, i can't believe all the hate and prejudice directed towards mien guy. We don't want a mien girl with bad mouth and bad attitude too.
this is funny
this thread is hilarious. i know many mien men who are educated, ambitious, and grounded. i am one of these men, as are many of my peers.
you may not notice us, because perhaps your sample size is a little too small. for it is true that many of us are too busy handling our priorities to be advertising our availability. also, perhaps it is precisely because we have the ambition that you so desperately seek that we now find ourselves in arenas outside of the mien community; arenas where we have plenty of opportunities to meet and engage non-mien women who are educated, ambitious and grounded. ;)
A person's skin colour
A person's skin colour should not matter, when you find someone that you want to spend the rest of your lives with their skin colour will be the only obstacle that stands in the way. I'm sure that there are a few good mien guys out there :-) somewhere. There is nothing wrong with dating outside of your ethnic culture, I am mien and i have been doing that for the past few years, and i find it more relaxing to date someone that is not mien less drama well i mean drama is everywhere but sometimes i think that dating someone that is mien his parents expect too much. And mienhmario: what's wrong with dating a white person, why should you feel unhappy and sorry?
There are nothing wrong with mien guys
Regardless of race, it affects all races. But let me stress a little about mien guys. There are only a "FEW GOOD GENTLEMIEN GUYS" out there. They're either taken or just some where to be found. My parents use to want me to marry a mien guy til they realize that it's not the nationality that matters, it's what's in his heart that does. No one's perfect but there's always that someone out there for you. What you want in a Mien guy is totally up to you. You want a sophisticated, smart, kind, gentle, respectful, drugfree ordinary mien guy? Trust me they do exist you just haven't run into him yet or perhaps you already have. You want a bad boy then go get urself a bad boy. Not all mien guys are wife beaters, high on drugs, alcoholics, gamblers, etc. I'm not pinpointing anyone nor am I judging anyone. Just saying that not all mien guys are bad and no one's perfect.
""Making every precious moment count"
My parents didn't expect me
My parents didn't expect me to marry Mien but you are absolutely right. It's hard to find men with these qualities. Not just in the Mien culture but all the other ethnic group as well. A man who doesn't cheat, drinks, gamble, smoke, do drugs, or stay out all night with his friends and who has a job.
Your Parents
One last thing for tonight...Shyguy611, how DARE you disrespect my parents and question the way they raised me! You have no idea who my parents are and what kind of people they are. If you want to put my parents head-to-head against yours, I'd be glad to. Hands down, my parents are far better. For all I know, your parents are probably judgemental, old-fashioned, drug dealing addicts who live off of our hard earned tax dollars! You can say whatever you want to about me but don't EVER disrepect my parents.
