NEW YEAR FESTIVAL - 10 AM TO 3 PM - FREE ADMISSION UNTIL 3 PM

Our late morning/early afternoon program will be in the form of a New Year Festival. During the festival, you can expect to see demonstrations where you and your children can...

- Learn how to write your names in Chinese and the new Mien script
- See a scale model of a Mien village
- Learn how to make a new year egg and net
- Learn how to braid a string
- Learn about Mien embroidery
- Learn about Mien religion
- Learn about Mien jewelry making and blacksmith
- See a Baaix Hnyangx ceremony/performance
- Hear live music and more...

There will be delicious Mien food made my Mien people for purchase.

Admission is free for the Festival. So, please bring your entire family for a new kind of New Year Celebration.

NEW YEAR DANCE PARTY - 5 PM TO 1 AM - $10 PER PERSON ADMISSION AT THE DOOR

By popular demand, we have extended the hours for the dance party. Between 3 PM and 5 PM, our festival will be transformed in a DANCE PARTY. As the name implies, the emphasis on this aspect of the new year celebration is DANCING! Our TENTATIVE PROGRAM is as follows

- Guest Singer/Open Dance Floor (25 Minutes)
- Dance Performance 2: (10 Minutes)
- Guest Singer/Open Dance Floor (25 Minutes)
- Guest Singer/Open Dance Floor (25 Minutes)
- Raffle: 3rd Prize (5 minutes)
- Dance Performance 3: (10 Minutes)
- Guest Singer/Open Dance Floor (25 Minutes)
- Guest Singer/Open Dance Floor (25 Minutes)
- Raffle: 2nd Prize (5 Minutes)
- Raffle: 1st Prize (5 Minutes)
- Close: 1 AM

As you can see... no Speeches are planned, except for a short welcoming remark from our fearless leader. The emphasis is on dancing, music, entertainment and socializing.

There will be food and beverages for purchase. You must be 21 or over to buy and consume alcohol.

BMW, now that you mention it, I ought to tell you I can not say that I will definitely be there but will attend if I don't have other plans. I am sure this will be a great turn out.
If I can't make to this event but my heart will be with you!! that's for sure.
I love the flyer and it seems it will be an interesting event that I wish to attend but it will depend on the time and transportation. It sucks when you don't have transportation or know your way around

blackrain is live band, nobody can play like them. their music gets the audience on floor. if u think they sucks then u should invent a band with good equipments and see how audiences thinks. us mien people should support each other rather than being to each other.

I'm glad to see Our New Year committee come up with something different for this year such as Festival Activities prior to actual new year celebration. Hopefully it turn out great... keep it up guys....!!!

There will be a a "New Year Festival" in the morning until 3 p.m.

Dance party will start at 5 p.m. Get there early...party will fill up fast.

Band is High-5 Band. Erik from Blackrain will be performing as well.

So, far a number of "Guest Bands" have been confirmed. Will update will more are confirmed.

Black Rain had a few good CDs but live performance sucks. They need better equipments.

Yes, I agree that there are a lot of talented people out there but I don't think it would be a good idea to have an open stage. There is a place and time for that but not the new year party. Why don't you plan one for that and see it goes.he he

This is a sugguestion, how about a karaoke contest like Redding had a few years ago or just an open stage for anybody who wants to sing. Why have a band, other people are talented too.

i don't think they have a keyboardist however Eric from Blackrain plays with High-5 in most parties now. It shouldn't matter as long as they keep the crowd entertained.

First Meeting
The planning committee met for the first time this week. We have a basic format for the event and have decided on a primary band. We are not yet ready to announce the band, because we would like to contact some guest bands and get them confirmed to announce the entertainment line-up together.

Does Blackrain have a keyboardist now?

To me as long as there is a mienh band playing for our mienh party then I'm happy to be there and have fun with my friends. I really don't care which mienh band is playing, but my suggestion to our mienh committees that they should rotate mienh band each year. Miehn community should give a chance and support other Mienh band too, not just one band all the time.I know right now there are so many Mienh bands out there, but most of them never get invite and have chance to perform in our mienh parties. I'm not going to say which band is the best and which band is the worst. I think as long as Mienh people who have talents and can form a band to come out help our Mienh community is really good.

I vote for hi-five band cuz they kno how to get the crowd onto the dance floor.

I think we should have more modern music....my suggestion for the band it shoulds be "Black Rain"....

We welcome your suggestions for a good band. We haven't gotten that far into planning yet. As of right now, all we have is a deposit on the venue and some ideas as to what we want to accomplish this year.
