For those who tended not to
For those who tended not to understand the role of Mien party, why don't you hold one yourself and invite all the mien to attend yours. I want to see how good you dogs can organize a big event. Road dogs always barking on road side and no one wants to keep and feed them. The more a dog barks the more people ignore and don't want to give food because this kind of dogs born to bark only and know nothing about protecting who had feed them when they were hungry.
All I got to say is you are
All I got to say is you are suck. Your mom probably regret for giving birth to you. In time your attitude and behavior will catch up to you. The society have no place for you man. Stay home and be a looser, which who you are right now.
I know Mien people are not
I know Mien people are not stupid, well, except you. You're an ignorant, and it seem to me that only one side of your brain is thinking. You're happy when you look stupid. Saying stupid things will only make look stupid. If you can't say nice thing, keep it shut dude.
Hello everyone, Wow! I
Hello everyone,
Wow! I found myself stuck in no man’s land. As board president for the United Iu-Mien Community, Inc. I was pressure to organize this so called “2007 Iu-Mien National New Year Celebration.” I shared with everyone in the beginning that it should be a community effort and the agency will be there to support only. However, no one is willing to step-up to take the lead, and of course, people don’t stop there. They demand that I should do something as their new leader or for many of you the “puppet” about having another big event in Sacramento, CA. With such demand, I did do my best to come up with the best and the most experience committee to organize the big event.
This is how we come out with the name “2007 Iu-Mien National New Year Celebration.” The planning committee and I agreed that this should continue as an annual event for all of us Iu-Mien people. And that the event should be alternate to all cities and states where we, Iu-Mien reside. Perhaps, Portland may host it next year (2008 Iu-Mien National New Year Celebration), and Richmond will host it the next following year, and so on. Every city(s) or state(s) can be as creative with the programs or activities.
Just like all of you, I’m disappointed with the result in certain areas. However, let’s really look at our goal for this event. If you all can go back and look at my posted letter to all the event sponsors; forth paragraph, last sentence:
“ through celebrating our 2007 Iu-Mien National New Year celebration, we’re promoting unity, cultural preservation, and awareness.”
1) People want to meet their relatives, family members, friends, and through this event we did make it happen. There were 3000 plus Mien people united on that day.
2) There are many people dressed up in our Mien traditional outfits, the displayed of Mien model house and other useful equipments. We also had many cultural performance shows, including the ceremony of blessing our New Year.
3) We did have government officials (County Board of Supervisor, Assemblymember, City Councilmember, School District Superintendent, and other Based Organizations) and news media (Fox 40 News and KCRA) to support us and assist us with promoting awareness.
These are the areas I’m looking to fulfill when looking it as a big picture, and I think all three were filled.
Regarding the delay of the program, I am as disappointed as all you. Some performers were to be there at 9 am, and they showed up at 11 am; it took longer for the pageants to prepare and dressed up as unexpected; lack of communication between the planning committee and the judges; performers are not ready when they are up; and some speakers did spoke longer than they were told.
With such delay, I do apologize that many of you did not have the chance to dance and really party. However, the word “celebration” is very broad, and I hope you all can make sense out of it. Back in our country, “New Year Celebration” simply means we eat and drinks until we are very drunk. Every celebration(s) has its own unique history for us to remember.
Regarding the food, with such many people, we’re trying to be as simple as we can. We’re not a restaurant owner, and certainly, we’re not into making complication for ourselves. As many of you can see, there are lots of people within the food committee itself. We did planned accordingly based on the experience from the second New Year Celebration we had. In terms of the price, I thought it was pretty reasonable.
Regarding the basketball tournament, I listened to all of you and added it the last minute. No teams had to pay to play. I stayed up till 12 midnight on Friday, the 23rd to work with the committee to have it set up. I called and called to look for official ref. and the fee was not cheap. Again, I listened and work as hard as I can to please everyone. I even added two jumping houses for the kids.
Well, all I can say is that everyone of you are entitle to have the right to express your anger feelings, and I encourage you to do so. However, please understand that what whatever you are disappointed in and angry at, I’m three time as much. You were there to support, and yes, you waste some of your time and money. For me and my planning committee, we spend many months planning; no sleep, using our own money for traveling and supplies, our spouses thought we were crazy with the volunteer work we’re doing, and threaten to leave us, and many other hardships just to put together this big event. May be some of you don’t see it that we did it for us as all Iu-Mien, but that is you, and it’s understandable with me.
One accusation I found it very disturbing is that the organizer got thicker with their wallet. You’re may be right, the agency may raise some money from having this event. You don’t know the costs of putting an event as this big, and please don’t tell me you done it before. You wouldn’t say such thing if you did. Regarding me or my planning committee profiting the profit individually, I can swear to it that we’re not. I wonder if you can to do same, swearing to your accusation. The tracking system we have is very thorough and our budget is opened to public for viewing and auditing. You may arrange to meet with me to view it.
Lastly, I wanted to thank you all of for your kind support. I encourage you to help support your community to host an event as big. I will be there to support you, and I promise you that I will not complain. By the way, IMANC is now planning our 30 years resettlement celebration. I hope you all take your free/valuable time to help plan the important event. You all now have as much ideas and experience as me and my planning committee. Perhaps, you can step-up with your support physically; volunteer yourself. If you must confront, please be prepared with solution to help. Confronting without helping is not helpful, and simply considered a cheap shot of putting people down. Thanks to those of you who bravely disclosed your true name with your ideas and inputs. I do listen to you.
On behalf of my planning committee and volunteers, I sincerely apologize for not meeting everyone’s desire and expectation. Thank you.
Tony S. Lee,
"We should all work
"We should all work together... help on another..." that's all have been said from ones with "low educations," "minds of "great grand parents," or those that knows nothing. So what does a dog suppose to do when its father bites the owner's hand that fed him?
Free admission in Mien attire
I totally agreed about following what was on the flyer. I took my parents, dgtr & friends, cousin, aunts and uncle there that day. My dad had on his mien outfit but i still ended up having to pay. I have no problem paying for 9 of us but felt that whatever is said in the flyer should be followed. I don't know the numbers of individuals whom had on their MIEN ATTIRE got in for free but hopefully lots of the positive comments and complaints should be looked at. I don't know how to really say this in english as you can see, am not so litterate but am gonna write it in mien nzangc
"Haaix joux waac gorngv daaih longc duqv nzuqc se longc,
hnamv daaih longc maiv nzuqc se guangc nqoi"

For future National Iu Mien
For future National Iu Mien NY parties, can we please eliminate the pageant or at least limit the pageant contestants to only come out & walk the stage max of 4 times? They can come out once, second time they can introduce themselves, and then they can come out one final time for interviews, & then one last time so judges can announce winners & runner ups. Set a time limit for each contestant to be out there for. As far as the food goes, there should be a bigger selection. & prices shouldn’t be set so high. & if people are required to pay for parking, it should be on the flyer. Also, if you are advertising that anyone in the traditional Iu Mien attire will get free admission, you should follow through with it. In the future, we just want to see more traditional performances, and more live bands performing, with the addition of open dance floor. That’s what most people are looking forward to when they attend events like these. Not long speeches that drag on forever and a Beauty Pageant that last on for hours. These are just suggestions, not demands. Is this positive criticism enough for you guys? I’m not expressing “low education” because I am not cussing, and I’m not making “grandparent remarks” about the committee pocketing any of the money.
well the new year was boring
well the new year was boring yet again. I thought this time around well be more improvement then the last one. I'm sad to say that it will never change. I went to the first n second n sadly the third. I can't believe the food was so expensive. 7 dollar got me one small piece of chicken wing, little bit of sasuage n rice. The sasuage was great but the chicken had no flavor. I guess they ran out of pork salad n was busy making moreI can't believe they didn't add clear noodle for the thum som since it cost 5 buck. But honstly I think they over charge us for food. Even bball tourney food are more cheaper n at least we get half leg&thigs but good luck next year. No more requesting off for new year. bye
there are no room for
there are no room for improvements if everything is always dandy. I agree most comments here are negative, but they shouldn't be ignored. you learn from your mistakes!
I'm glad you thought you had
I'm glad you thought you had a better experience, I certainly didn't. I have no reason to lie about such things. Furthermore, I'm not angry about not winning--I wasn't in it to win to begin with. I saw it as a way for me to overcome stage fright. Anyhow, I meant to say that the committee has all this city money to do something positive for the mien community, but the new year event is just their way of cheating the system to gain extra cash. Plus, the girls in the pageant volunteer to be there, so at the least the committee can use the money earned mainly by the main event, the girls, towards charity or something meaningful.
Maybe they're still trying
Maybe they're still trying to sort out the earnings or taking a swing at one another behind closed doors....it is too quiet. No defense no response. Maybe they're just in shock, realizing Mien folks aren't that stupid.
Most of you got the point/Be good Mien
I do agree with most of you that the NY was boring. The beauty pageant should have been shown by it's own event. However, I have not seen any particular Mien big event turn the way it suppose to be in the last few decades. I spent great deal of time reading most of critisms and comments from our own people and did not understand clearly of what people are trying to convey to the event organizers. Some expressed very low educated thoughts (bad words), some had great grandparents ideas (organizers put money in their pockets), some had crazy suggestions ( how to plan an event when they don't have any ideas of what they are talking about) and some knows nothing, but try to give inputs. Nevertheless, as an Iu-Mien I think we all should work together to better shape our Iu-Mien communities and give valuable comments. I sure we all have great ideas and if we stand by each other or try to help one another, we will be more success. I'm Iu-Mien.com created this web site for our people to share great ideas, educations, good news rather than critisms. If you are like other good Iu-Mien citizens, you should have looked harder in the mirror that you are a Mien and stand up for the Mien people by giving good advices and show your efforts to improve any areas that you can support. A good mother dog will not bite her pubbies and a good father dog will guard his territory. If you can realize and improve that you are a Mien person, you should not bite our own people nor unguard them. Last, I like to say the organizers did a great job, but improvements are needed. Please read those good/positive comments and take some for granted.

The right person in the wrong time, still not the right person.
The right person is the person in the right time.
i couldn't agree with you
i couldn't agree with you more. however, whether they choose to respond or not is their choice. it's a reflection on them. we all know they are watching and reading this.
Where are the organizers?
with such a horrible event, the organizers should come here and apologize and explain their actions. after all, many people local and afar attended this event hoping to celebrate the new year. instead, they were forced to sit through an endless and meaningless pageant and numerous speeches that had nothing to do with celebrating the new year. they raised money all year long and people donated thinking they were giving to a good cause. this event was about the ego and arrogance of the organizers. they didn't care about entertainment or celebrating the new year. they just wanted to show that they could put together a big event. local musicians and bay area bands were not invited to perform. shadowheart, none the wiser, was good enough to come all the way from seattle, lugging their own equipment and didn't even get to perform for their fans properly. many people, including myself, were hoping to see them. but, they closed the gate at 8 pm and nobody was allowed in. such bad judgment, because people were still arriving from out of town and the flyer did say doors open from 9am to midnight. i'm really disappointed and hope to hear from tony lee or some of the board members at UIMC.
all i got to say is that the
all i got to say is that the new year sucks, tournament, pageant, food and the host... all i got out of the new year wass an hr wait for food and an egg... wow. and what hte hell no fucken klung fen com on now...
NUMBER 13 SHOULD OF
NUMBER 13 SHOULD OF WONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!! SHE DESERVED ITTTTT !!! >:[
THANKS TO OUR FANS.
Whoever you are..Thanks for thought and felt the sympathy for us...
yes my band and I had travel thousand miles away from home and going thru a snow storm on the way down and on the way back but we managed to make it home safely.First thing first I would like to thanks to all our SHADOWHEART's fan for coming out try to see our show and for those of you that stay until the last minute to watch us perform few songs.I'm sorry to disapointed our fans that we didn't have a good chance to give a good show.but at least we WERE there too.Second thing I would like to thanks to the community leaders that invited us to be there to celebrated this new year's party with you guys and seeing all the beautiful pageant show.
I know due to the time and constraint alot of people were disapointed that didn't have a chance to see a live band performing and have a chance to dance.Hopefully in the future we can put a better idea and give a better show.We can always learn from our past mistake and live for the future.
Sincerely,
Billy..AKA SHADOWHEART.
Your opinion will never be
Your opinion will never be counted dude. Even dog can share better than you. I wonder you talk to your mom like you talk here. Talking about doing a better new year next year, I think dreaming will kill you already. How about very simple thing, learn to talk normal. I know you an't black, and certainly, you will never be Mien. You are lost, and really need help with identifying your own identity. You should get yourself a mental counselor. Forget about the new year at sact. worry about those who lives with you. I don't know how they can stand you....
i really think it would be a
i really think it would be a great idea to have "zoux auv mienh" (mrs. pageant) in the near future. I believe that there are still many auv janx out there. (perhaps age 25-35).
Yes, I second that. It would
Yes, I second that. It would be nice if whichever band play should be play in between the cultural show and speeches so PPL's can dance and have fun in between. But less speech would be nice. And for BP......I think they should have girls in the age range from 18yrs -mid 20's.
what do the pageant winners
what do the pageant winners get?
when shadowheart started
when shadowheart started playing, there were only a few guests like mey luang and her cousin and some teenagers along with the volunteers, however i do agreed the BP did take up the whole day and hopefully in the near future, it should just be more cultural shows, less speeches, and whichever band is playing to be playing in between shows.
THE PAGEANT WAS GREAT.
THE PAGEANT WAS GREAT. WHERES THE VIDEO OF THE WHOLE NEW YEAR????!!!!!!?!?!?!??! IM PRETTY SURE EVERYONE WANTS TO SEE IT.
Seriously, if you want to
Seriously, if you want to complain...please step up to the plate and try to help plan an event like this. It's not EASY. If you feel like you have a much more adequate planning method, then maybe you can take charge.
