Try this for starters... go hang with more Mienh people and practice it. Or like Meuy stated, hang out with the older folks. Preferrably one that can understand english just in case you have any questions.
Or do the extreme, spend at least one month in Laos with the Mienh people in the mountains. Helped me out significantly although I had a pretty heavy mandarinish accent to begin with. (At least I like to think so!)

best way to learn mien go and talk to your grandparents or seniors in your community their are some who is willing to correct your grammer and the benefit to it is they throw in an awesome story (you can always ask them what does that mean) the seniors LOVE IT

if you are in the bay i am more then willing to converse with u and give you some pointers i sure aint no teacher but i know some older seniors who have nothing better to do then tell their stories and for you or me to listen...we need to be intouch with our seniors...we are losing a part of our histroy cause they are the first refugees here in the US

does anyone know if there are audio tapes of mien dictionary or words, i really want to know how to pronounce them correctly. My vocab in mien is limited i think its good for people that dont't have a deep knowledge of our words. i think i need to learn how to read in mien.

I picked this culture as my cultural project some years ago, and up till now I'm still fascinated by its beauties. Like you, I'd love to learn how to read and speak it as well. I love how this language sounds like music when one speaks it. If anyone here would like to be my teacher, I'll do my best to be a devoted student to master this beautiful language.

depends on where u live...
in the bay area you can contact project heritage they usually run a class once in a while...if you can get the crowd i'm sure there is someone who is willing to work with u...as for the learn chinese in mien you gotta find those shamen...they are really helpful let me know what city you are from i can do some research and see which shamen can teach u....most are free some do charge a fee but you know its for gas and everyone is trying to make a living

Church huh.... I'm not a church going dude though. Yea that might be a difficult one, not really interested in converting to churchism.

And learing mien in chinese???? How does that work? Would that mean that I have to learn chinese to learn mien? haha. Is that like learning calculus to add the change in my pockets?

I think the only place is maybe at church? I'm not sure though, but I sure am not converting to Christianity just to learn to read Romanticized Mien. How bout learning to read Mien in Chinese? Don't know where to learn how to read Mien in Chinese either......
