Mien Villages in Thailand

Two years ago, I had a chance to visit Laos first time since I left. I went back there with my two American friends and they liked to take ground transportation instead of plane. It was a great experience that we had a chance to take bus from Vientiane to Mungsing, Luang Namtha. It took us one day from Vientiane to Luang Prabang and another day from Luang Prabang to Luang Namtha. On the way, I got to see those villages that I could only know the name them from K. Viseth's song. I saw a lot of Khmu villages along the highway 13, but not even one Mien village until we arrived in Muangsing. There are some Mien families in Luang Prabang, but most of them are like business people. Talk about Luang prabang, I would really recommend that you should set aside your time for atleast 3 days to explore it's beautiful city. Oh, and don't forget to spend some afternoons at a restaurant near Mekong river.

Wo,theres still Mienh people in Luang Namtha? I thought since the war, everyone would have gone. My grandma said hecka lot of people left cuz she went through Luang Namtha from the Doi Lakham or something like that.

last time i visited Laos, i have been to some places where Mien people live. There are no more so-called "Mien Village". They're been relocated to live with other tribes. I'm only talking about what i see in the province of Luang Prabang. May be in the northern provinces such as Bokeo and Luang Nam Ta where the most Iu-Mien people live, there are still some "Mien Village" exist.

It seems not many people know about Iu Mien villages in Chiangmai. Perhaps, when we mention about Chiangmai, almost everyone should have heard about it before. Here are three more Iu Mien villages added to your list.

บ้านปางควาย บ้านหนอง และบ้านห้วยขาน ตำบลแม่งอน อำเภอฝาง จังหวัดเชียงใหม่

There are over 200 families all together. Ban Pangkuai is considered one of the biggest Iu Mien village in Thailand. There was a documentary film entitled, "Iu Mien Sport" was filmed in this village.

Go to Laos, that's where all the mien villages are. I will go one of these days to see what we have missed. To all maybe not much, but to me I've missed alot. Much love to all. =)

Calvin, how do you know all these mienh villages in Thailand? I have been to few of those villalges when I went back there with my friends. I don't even know there are so many mienh villages in Thailand.
