Why Not?

Our Mien Leader can be as good as Santa Claus.
Capable of being many places at one time.

I will vote 'pretty' as our

I will vote 'pretty' as our first Iu Mien Woman Leader.
I have the feeling that you'll do fine.

Mien as a whole

Even barely scraping at the surface you already get complications in installing a Mien leader. The Christian mien and Old Religion mien would both want equal representation of course. That in itself would divide the WHOLE mien community in half. Pretty, I think you stumbled onto the biggest reason for us NOT being able to move on and grow. Most, if not all, of the currently older educated mien are men and they come from a long line of mien men bravado. If we as a people can't even change the way we think of a woman leader, then we have no right to even discuss this issue any farther.

mien leader

As of right now we can't even have a president of the u.s that is a leader. How is it possible to have a mien leader? The most important question should be who are the mien. Where are we going? How are we going to get there? As of right now I sense there is no direction for the mien people.
The only thing I see that is positive is the unification of mien through iumien.com. Other than that everything else is just irrevelevant to the cause. I strongly believe there are people out there that want mien to be recognize. And I think there are mien out there that wants us to know we are a people. But how does it work? Without guidance we are left wondering who we are. May someone come out with a manifesto to guide us. Its just me but to me the mien needs to reconnect with each other and find the purpose to move forward. Other than this we are all secular.

The idea of just a leader

The idea of just a leader isn't the case here, but we do need leader(s). Role models, spokesman, activists, they are all so needed and so appropriate; probably more than we all really think so.

There are striving advocates and leaders out there doing so much in bridging all these gaps, but as a community, are we contributing to these social-movements(?) Despite of all the commotion about what's needed and should be done; how are we all, as a whole, establishing ourselves to our community and it's works?

@ Thaen

Hello Miss:

I was just drawn to your request and I'm very well interested in these areas of study as well. So, if there's any information you've covered, specific data that you found important to the Mienh history in full-length; socially, economically, politically, etc, let me know. I'd love to contrast, share, and learn about these subjects with some one. So, please contact me if you're willing talk about it and share what you know.

RE: By Who's Definition?

Hey Gutts,
I totally agree with many of the points that you made about leadership and especially your point of being divided as a community on the needs and goals of the MIen people as a whole. It just seem like a enormous task to find solidarity within such a chaotic system that we as a people were put into, not to mention the generation gap of the old and and the young. I just wonder where to start from though? But yeah, just want to tell you i really respect you for just putting it out there like that. Kudos!

Regard,
Thaen

IU MIEN SOCIAL MOVEMENT

Hello, everyone. I am currently a UC Berkeley student right now and is a Sociology major. I am very interested in any current or past Mien social movements for my area of study and would like to know where best to begin. If anyone has more info on this subject please let me know. OR if you have feelings and opinions regarding this issue, please shoot them my way. Thanks! =)

The MORE you know the LESS you need.

my voices...vs....????

your right gutts........i totally agreed with you. to be a qualified leader; you must be strong, educated, have a good reputation, be a role modal, ability to read/write and is stablize in family values. Most of all be able to stand up for the mien community both inside and outside. knowledge of the resources within the community, prevents violence, drugs, street gangs and etc.....

Mien should be one family as a whole, not divided. We should all have a gathering/meeting about this topic. Mien all over the states, what do you think? Mien leaders are always men, what about WOMEN? Women have the same capability as the men....

.............."there is only one key to success: never quit"...........

By Who's Definition?

I havent posted in years so excuse me if my post sounds like an echo but...
leadership, schmeder$hit.
Its just my thoughts but picking a leader is... stupid. Mainly because from what I've observed in today's society, the masses' attention is easily swayed by a person's status & credibility. However, I agree that it does help... a little. its obvious to see how hard a person has worked by taking a peek at their plaque, diploma, degree, yada yada yada.
The way things are, it doesnt seem like we are really in need of a leader. Change definitely but a leader? Come on guys, are we as a people, a culture so incompentent to a point where we have to depend on a someone else to decide the course of our future? I think many have already answered this and by example, this thread right here.
We may have more than a handful a leaders out there already.
I believe one of the best qualities a leader should have is "Self-less Sacrifice". You know, not for personal gain but for the benefit of his/her people. And I'm guessing those potential leaders that have been mentioned in and out of this forum have much to lose.
Question is, do they have it in their hearts to sacrifice time, money, love, patience, pride; all that jazz for the benefit of their people? Here's another question for all you potentials out there, are your people worth it?
As a people, I dont think we share the same vision, or goal. Sure there are variations but not all the same. In every state, every region, every individual has their own agenda, which makes me believe we are not totally united but we're not entirely divided either.
A well-qualified leader should also be aware of almost everything the goes on within the community, the both sides of the coin. I've seen the bad side, it is ugly. I've seen the good side, its not as ugly but it is old. Coming from the old Mienh.net forum and observing this one, there's too much politics involved but thats just my opinion.
Call it a dreamer's ideal but admist all the Phans(Fun) and Kaos(Chaos), an anomaly will eventually come to be. This is a person not chosen by the people but rather forged from them. And this being will not lead by organization but rather, by example. To remind us of what we are, what we used to be, what we could be, where we came from and where we can go. Somewhat of a Confucious, Buddha or Christ. Kind of like God almost, silent yet influential.

Who were the Iu Mien Leaders of the past (China, Laos, Thailan)

Hello everyone,

I think it is important for us (younger genaration) to learn about our history... Please share your knowledge about our great leaders...

Who is your most influential leaders/Role Models?

Please share....

hi mien people! glad to see

hi mien people! glad to see that iumien.com is back up!

so whats the update on our mien leader? Mr. Chaosarn? i heard that he was selling his gas station and all kind of stuff.

So, you're saying that

So, you're saying that because i don't spend my time around community leaders and donate enough money that my family/brother doesn't deserve any kind of acknowledgement? If so, i think that's a crock of sh**!

i'm not understanding what

i'm not understanding what you mean.

I think Micky means local

I think Micky means local community leaders. Portland community leaders for Portland, Seattle for Seattle, Sacramento for Sacramento... etc. Locally, that's not much ground to cover.

I’m not an idiot… of

I’m not an idiot… of course I was talking about locally. I don’t expect people to fly across the world to show my family support when it’s hard enough to get it here in Seattle from people who live 10 minutes away! I understand that people have their own lives and families, but when you take on a role as a leader you should make time to show the people in your community that you actually give a damn. My brother was looking forward to accepting his diploma at the Mien graduation this past week, which was hosted by the same people who are supposed to lead our city. Can you believe they didn’t even have the decency or compassion to call out his name? They didn’t even acknowledge his hard work and achievement. They simply passed his name up as if he just fell off the face of the earth and no longer existed. How insensitive could these people be? It pisses me off even more when they recognized other graduates who weren’t physically there and their family members were able to go up and accept their diploma. Why couldn’t we accept my brother’s on his behalf? I don’t want anyone to pity my family or me. I just want to why they thought he didn’t deserve any recognition for all of the hard work that he’s done.

VangPao still in Sacto

VangPao still in Sacto Jail?lol

A leader of your community,

A leader of your community, city that you supposedly lead. Sorry, if i wasn't clear on which leaders I was referring to.

I don't think there is a

I don't think there is a leader in U>S beside our United state President Goerge W. Bush. Micky our so called leaders work for free and i think we all should work for free and be around more community leaders maybe than they might think we all are leaders too. All I know is be around you will know everything in our Mienh U>S community across nation and participate give some money away or give whatever maybe it will come back by the community or someone else. Just think about it".

Micky, if someone passed

Micky, if someone passed away in local, then that won't be a problem. I don't think they can attend every ceremony all over the country. Especially like California, it's big state. People don't live at the same cities. Its impossible to do that. #1 is money, #2 is time. Everyone have a life and family too you know?

What did chaosarn do or have

What did chaosarn do or have done to you bro? Whatever he did with the money or power, her earn it. If you want to have power like he does, then I suggest you make your own money and have the power you want. Don't get anry with people who have power or money. That's the way life suppose to be.

Wait a minute. I think it's

Wait a minute. I think it's pretty tough when multiple people passed away at the same time. Say, two people died in Washington, two died in Oregon and one died in each major Mien community in California. That would be like trying to get to at least 10 families a weekend. And it would be even more difficult on weekdays. Can any Mien leaders really do that? For example, can Sengfo go to all those places? It would be a full time job to do that, and almost all of our community leaders are doing it on a voluntary basis. I know many cities decide to pick people who do not really know much about being leaders because the intelligent ones refuse to accept the role. It is pretty messed up business to say the least.

We didn't try to overthrow

We didn't try to overthrow the Laos gov't and we had nothing to do with Vang Pao.

What happen to Vangpao?

What happen to Vangpao?

im letting karma takes its

im letting karma takes its toll. i am aware and angry for what chao sarn has done or not do, to and for the mien community.
my opinoin, im sure he's a good person, but money , power and greed has changed him. it also can can anyone.
but if you are grounded it should be very hard to change you.
so i say he desreves it. its been too long.

My prayers are with them all

My prayers are with them all Mienh and Hmong.

You haven't heard? Vang Pao

You haven't heard? Vang Pao is in jail. I would not be surprised if some of our very own leaders will be jailed before this is all said and done.

What is happening in our Laotian community now? It started out with a bang - Hmong hunter incident. Then came Chaosarn and his non-profit organization(S). I am hearing that the big "S" is getting bigger each day with much more serious issues than the original allegations. I wouldn't be surprised if he is in jail soon also. Of course, the biggest bang - Vang Pao and his buddies were arrested for plotting to commit a terroristic act against Laos.

What is next? What (a big WHAT) if the investigations of Vang Pao and Chaosarn begin to link all other supporters? I would hate to see a bunch of our folks being implicated. It feels like tsunami has hit our Laotian communities. Let's make offers to our gods (spirits) and pray to Christian God to see us through this difficult time. Or if you think what is happening is a good thing then, let's make offers to our gods and pray to Christian God to bring the truth out and punish them appropriately. Which side are you on?

Micky... What if the leader

Micky... What if the leader does not know of the happening(s)? How are they supposed to attend?
